Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about FileDroppy

General

What is FileDroppy?

FileDroppy is a simple, secure file sharing service that lets you upload files and share them via a unique download link. No software installation required — it works directly in your browser.

Do I need to create an account to send files?

No. You can send files without registering. However, creating a free account gives you access to your transfer history, download tracking, and the ability to manage your shared files from a dashboard.

Is FileDroppy free?

Yes! FileDroppy offers a generous free plan that lets you send files up to 500 MB per file, 2 GB per transfer, with up to 20 files per transfer. Links stay active for 7 days. For larger transfers, our Pro plan offers up to 5 GB per file and 20 GB per transfer.

What file formats are supported?

FileDroppy supports all file formats. You can send documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX), images (JPG, PNG, RAW), videos (MP4, MOV, AVI), audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC), archives (ZIP, RAR), and any other file type.

Can I send folders?

You can select multiple files from a folder and upload them in a single transfer. Recipients can download all files at once or individually.

File Limits & Storage

What is the maximum file size?

Free users can upload files up to 500 MB each, with a maximum of 2 GB per transfer. Pro users can upload files up to 5 GB each, with a maximum of 20 GB per transfer.

How many files can I send at once?

Free users can send up to 20 files per transfer. Pro users can send up to 100 files per transfer.

How long are files available for download?

Free transfers expire after 7 days. Pro transfers expire after 30 days. After expiration, files are automatically and permanently deleted from our servers.

Is FileDroppy a backup or storage service?

No. FileDroppy is designed for temporary file sharing, not long-term storage. Files are automatically deleted upon expiration. Always keep your own backups of important files.

Security & Privacy

Is FileDroppy secure?

Yes. All data is transmitted over HTTPS/TLS encryption. Passwords are hashed with bcrypt. All forms are protected against CSRF attacks. We also scan every uploaded file for malware and viruses.

Can I password-protect my transfers?

Yes. You can add a password to any transfer. Recipients will need to enter the password before they can view or download the files.

Does FileDroppy scan files for viruses?

Yes. Every file uploaded to FileDroppy is automatically scanned for malware and viruses. If a threat is detected, the file is flagged to protect recipients.

Who can see my files?

Only people who have the unique download link can access your files. If you add password protection, they also need the password. FileDroppy staff do not access your files unless required by law.

Where are my files stored?

Your files are stored securely on our servers with appropriate access controls. Transfer metadata is stored in our database with encryption in transit.

Pro Plan

What does the Pro plan include?

The Pro plan includes 5 GB per file, 20 GB per transfer, up to 100 files per transfer, 30-day link expiry, password protection, virus scanning, and priority support. It costs $9/month or $7/month billed annually.

Can I cancel my Pro subscription?

Yes. You can cancel anytime from your Account Settings. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your current billing period.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our secure payment processor, Stripe.

Do you offer refunds?

We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods. You can cancel at any time and continue using Pro features until the end of your billing cycle.

Technical

Which browsers are supported?

FileDroppy works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, and Opera. We recommend using the latest version for the best experience.

Why is my upload slow?

Upload speed depends on your internet connection. FileDroppy uses chunked uploads for reliable large file transfers. Try using a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi, or upload during off-peak hours for better speeds.

What happens when a download link expires?

When a link expires, all associated files are permanently deleted from our servers. The link will show an expiration message. You would need to create a new transfer to share the files again.

Do I need to install any software?

No. FileDroppy works entirely in your web browser. No desktop app, browser extension, or plugin is needed.
